Editorial Policy

Purpose and Scope

Illinois Community publishes practical, non-political local information about Illinois. Our focus is everyday life: neighborhoods, events, jobs, transport, seasonal activities, and community resources.

We aim to help readers make better local decisions with clear, plain-language content. We do not position this site as legal, medical, or financial advice.

How Content Is Created

  • Topics are selected from real audience demand and local relevance.
  • Drafts are prepared by the Illinois Community editorial team.
  • We prioritize original writing over copied summaries.
  • We expand useful formats over time, including explainers, community Q&As, photo-led recaps, and short-form video.
  • Each piece is reviewed for clarity, usefulness, and readability.

Sourcing and Accuracy

When a claim depends on an external fact, we cross-check with official or primary local sources whenever possible. For time-sensitive details (event dates, prices, schedules, policy updates), readers should confirm directly with the venue or agency before acting.

We avoid publishing speculative claims as facts. If we are uncertain, we either verify first or clearly label uncertainty.

Updates and Corrections

We periodically review high-traffic pages and update them when information changes. The displayed update date reflects meaningful revisions.

If you spot an error, email hello@illinoiscommunity.com with the page URL and correction details. We investigate and fix verified issues.

Advertising and Independence

Advertising does not control our editorial decisions. We do not sell positive coverage, and we separate ad operations from content decisions.

AI and Editorial Review

We may use AI-assisted tools for research support, drafting help, and quality checks. All published content is reviewed and approved by a human editor before publication.

Media Standards

  • Embedded media must directly support the topic of the page it appears on.
  • We avoid sensational, misleading, adult, violent, or otherwise restricted media.
  • Each approved video should identify its source and explain why it is relevant to the reader.
  • When we publish original clips, we prefer hosting them directly on our site with captions, transcripts, and supporting context.
  • When possible, we prefer original footage, community interviews, and local event coverage over generic stock clips.

Community Safety Standards

We do not publish content intended to mislead, harass, exploit, or promote harm. We remove or revise material that fails these standards.
